Bag Boy - Grocery Item Art!

Fifty-three grocery models have now been completed. This is a sample of ~1/5 of the total list, but what I will be using for the time being. They'll get a nice texture treatment next week, then it's on to sprucing up the environment and UI!


The 4x1 raw fish turned out to be my favorite item to model.

Bag Boy - Art Update!

The past few weeks have been dedicated to solidifying art direction. The initial visual setup for my Grocery Dictionary is working, which you can see below with the new Roast Chicken item!


The starburst background changes color depending on the item's category type. 
This Roast Chicken is in the Hot Food category.


In addition to that, I have finished the first modeling pass for my Bag Folks. The next step is to rig them up for use, and start making some custom clothing and accessories. The game's custom character, and all NPCs will use this base.


Boxy, with just a touch of bevel. Just like everything else in the game.

Bag Boy Update - Conveyor Belt Upgrade

Bag Boy Prototype Update #2

I've made a few additions to my prototype, as well as some general clean-up and rework where necessary.


Improvements have been made since the last update:
  • Conveyor belt for grocery delivery
  • Drop Highlight more accurate
  • Mouse/Click functionality for most actions.
  • Orthographic camera
  • General bug fixing

Next steps:
  • Placeholder representation for different grocery items
  • Build a structure for Level challenges
  • Update to out of bounds placements
  • Item weight and related score bonuses
  • Game layout update to fit mobile phone aspect ratio

Bag Boy Puzzle Game Prototype




I've been working on this little prototype over the past few days, and I think the bones are finally in place enough for me to show something off. There are still a ton of upgrades and feature additions to make before this hits my concept target, but it's coming along quick.

So, what is Bag Boy? Think Tetris meets groceries. Properly sorting and stacking groceries will net the player a tip, but break those eggs, or squash that bread, and you're looking at an unhappy customer.
